Tanmay Tiwari appointed as the Chairperson (Young Member) of IMechE, India – North Panel
The IMechE India branch reached out to Mr Tiwari for a professional association, and invited him as a guest speaker to a webinar. Mr Tiwari shared his valuable insight with fellow IMechE members on the topic of Careers Prospects in Mechanical Engineering. This webinar was co-hosted by the esteemed Sikkim Manipal University. Tanmay was invited to the last Annual General Meeting of IMechE India where he was appointmented as the Young Member Chairperson of IMechE, India – North Panel. Mr Tiwari is looking forward to contributing to the Institution’s growth and presence in the Northern parts of India, especially in Aerospace, Defence and Automotive sectors.
Composite Airframes for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)
Inventor of an electric unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Karthik Bomaiah, contacted us to help him reduce the weight of his aircraft by replacing current aerostructures with lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite aerostructures. The UAV, Casper, was fitted with bespoke remote-controlled camera platform, and can switch from hovering calmly to carrying out instant acrobatic manoeuvres when required. The UAV configuration was unique and interesting at the same point. This helped making action movies more realist than just relying on special effects. We were able to assist Karthik with the design, development and manufacture of advanced composite components for his UAV.
What are Nanocomposites?
Nanocomposites are engineered materials that incorporate nanosized particles into a matrix of a conventional material. These nanosized particles, called nanomaterials, when added into a matrix, are referred to as nano additives or nanofillers. Adding nanofillers can drastically alter the properties of a material, including its mechanical strength, toughness, thermal or electrical conductivity, and electromagnetic behaviour.
